Arguably the best American musical ever. Ragtime, set at the dawn of the
20th century, tells three distinctly American stories — that of a
stifled suburban mother, an inventive Jewish immigrant and a bold young
Harlem musician. Henry Ford and Harry Houdini even stop by. This epic
musical won four 1998 Tony awards, including one for its soaring score
by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, two names all lovers of musicals
should know. And it's rarely done because the cast is so large. See at
the Atlanta Lyric Theatre.
