Marietta’s New Theatre in the Square stages La Gringa,
a play about identity by Carmen Rivera. Maria Elena Garcia goes to
visit her family in Puerto Rico, planning to use the trip to connect
with her homeland. Once there, however, she finds she doesn’t fit in.
Most Puerto Ricans consider her American — a gringa. Most Americans
consider her Puerto Rican. Maria believes she’s a nobody everywhere,
until her uncle intervenes.
